Gal Gadot has teamed with her husband and producing partner Jaron Varsano to form the production company Pilot Wave, which will launch with her starring in the historical thriller “Irena Sendler.”

The “Wonder Woman” star will portray the real-life World War II hero for Warner Bros., according to Deadline, and she and Varsano will produce with Marc Platt.

“Irena Sendler” will tell the harrowing story of a woman’s brave stand against Nazi Germany’s occupation of Poland and the remarkable network she devised to save and care for 2,500 Jewish children from the Warsaw Ghetto. Following her arrest by the Gestapo during the height of the war, the drama becomes a race against time to save not only herself but also the identities of hidden thousands who will face certain execution if revealed.

Justine Juel Gillmer, who just wrote the Holocaust film “Harry Haft,” will be penning the “Irena Sendler” screenplay, according to Deadline.

Gillmer has worked in film and television in her native Australia and on numerous shows in the United States, including “The 100” and “Into the Badlands.” She is now serving as a writer and co-executive producer on Amazon’s “Wheel of Time.”

“As producers, we want to help bring stories that have inspired us to life,” Gadot and Varsano said in a statement. “Pilot Wave will create content that promotes the perspectives and experiences of unique people and produce impactful stories aimed at igniting the imagination.”

Gadot also is a producer on as well as the star of the sequel “Wonder Woman 1984, due in theaters next summer, and is currently starring for Kenneth Branagh in “Death on the Nile.” She next stars with Dwayne Johnson and Ryan Reynolds in “Red Notice” for Netflix and has several previously announced film projects that Pilot Wave will be part of with Gadot and Varsano producing. They include “My Dearest Fidel,” a potential star vehicle for Gadot that Chris Brancato is writing and Sue Kroll is producing, according to Deadline.

As previously reported, Gadot is starring in and executive producing the Showtime limited series “Hedy Lamarr,” in which she plays the famed Austrian-born actor and inventor. “The Affair‘s” Sarah Treem is writing the series, from Warren Littlefield and Endeavor Content.
