WEEK IN WOMEN: Barbra Streisand receives Honorary Palme D’or at Cannes 2026 – Brandy McDonnell reports
Barbra Streisand will receive an Honorary Palme d’or during the 2026 Cannes Film Festival in France, but due to a knee injury,she won’t be able to attend the May 23 Cannes Film Festival Awards Ceremony to be honored in person.
“On the advice of my doctors, as I continue recovering from a knee injury, I am sadly unable to attend the Festival de Cannes this year,” Streisand said in a statement shared by the festival. “But I am deeply honored to receive the Honorary Palme d’Or and had so been looking forward to celebrating the remarkable films of the 79th edition.”
Festival officials have confirmed that the tribute to Streisand will continue as planned despite her absence.
“While I regret that I can’t be there in person, I want to extend my warmest congratulations to all of the filmmakers from around the world whose extraordinary talent and creative vision are being celebrated this year. My heartfelt thanks to the Festival, and to everyone who continues to support and champion the art of cinema,” Streisand continued in her statement.
In recognition of her career, world-renowned actress, director, producer, screenwriter, singer and songwriter Barbra Streisand will receive an Honorary Palme d’or during the Cannes Film Festival Awards Ceremony, to be broadcast live May 23 from the Palais des Festivals stage.
