The Alliance of Women Film Journalists is proud to announce the winners of the AWFJ EDA Awards for Best Female-Directed Feature and Best Female-Directed Short at Whistler Film Festival 2022. The EDA Awards were presented at a virtual awards ceremony on December 13, 2022. This is the tenth anniversary of the AWFJ and WFF partnership to recognize and honor the work of female filmmakers. WFF nominates the films for consideration. AWFJ members are the jurors. Great results.

The Alliance of Women Film Journalists and Whistler Film Festival are proud to announce the nominees for two AWFJ EDA Awards to be presented at the 2022 festival. This is the tenth consecutive year of the partnership between Whistler Film Festival and AWFJ to honor films directed by women. Whistler Film Festival nominates films for consideration. Juries are comprised of AWFJ members. The winners will be announced at this year’s virtual awards ceremony.

Whistler Film Festival: Women in the Director’s Chair 2022 – Jennifer Merin reports

Women In the Director’s Chair (WIDC) is a Canadian nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting women filmmakers and developing their projects. Among its successful programs, WIDC IS partnering with Whistler film Festival for the ninth year to present its In the Director’s Chair Story & Leadership program, an intensive mentorship that benefits eight mid-career and non-binary filmmakers from across Canada and representing Canada’s diverse population. The filmmakers selected for the 2022 program will attend this year’s Whistler Film Festival (taking place November 30 through December 4 and online until January 2, 2023), participating in the WFF Industry Immersion program.

2021 EDA AWARDS NOMINEES

In our 15th annual awards season, we present EDA Awards in 25 categories divided into three sections, the BEST OF AWARDS, FEMALE FOCUS AWARDS and EDA SPECIAL MENTION AWARDS. Competition is particularly tight this year, and we are especially pleased to see our EDA Award nominations dominated by women filmmakers in all major craft categories, and not just those in the FEMALE FOCUS section. Jane Campion’s THE POWER OF THE DOG tops the list with a total of 12 nominations, including Best Film, Best Director, Best Adapted Screenplay, and bests in acting and craft categories.

The Alliance of Women film Journalists partnered with Tallgrass Film Festival to present EDA Awards for Best Female Directed Films at the festival’s 19th edition, held in Wichita, Kansas from October 20 – 24, 2921. One of the nation’s leading regional film festivals, Tallgrass Film Festival dubs itself as stubbornly independent and aims to foster an appreciation of the cinematic arts by creating shared experiences around the international medium of film. Women in film are high priority on the festival’s agenda. This year, the festival presented 44 features and 128 shorts for in-person screenings.
